PV  panels (a.k.a. solar panels):

You can expect a long life from PV panels.  PV panels are made of semiconductor materials. Within the panels there are positive and negative layers of semiconductor material. When sunlight hits the semiconductor layer in the solar panel, electrons travel across the junction of the two different layers of semiconductor materials, creating an electric current. Most manufactures offer a 20 year warranty on the panels, which guarantees that the panels will last as long as your return investment.

Inverters:

Simply put, an inverter takes the DC electricity from the solar panel and converts it into AC electricity used by common household appliances.  There are many different brands and models of inverters and the warranties vary with each manufacture; however most are around 10 years.
